Hello Internet. It's been a while. It's been almost a year since I was last here, and a lot has happened since I've been away. There are a few reasons that I didn't keep up, I'll figure out how to explain it in a different post. Just know that my senior year was quite a roller coaster between home, school and work, and my obligations kept me from being able to produce my own content.
But I'm back, and I'm sticking to things this time around. After a year of soul-searching and exploring career paths, I'm in a funny position where I actually don't mind if I become never a journalist at a traditional news outlet.
If someone who wants to do journalism ever reads this, I would encourage him or her to pursue it. I still love journalism and honestly it's a pretty lively time to jump into the field. Between the fringe journalists/bloggers and the very public moments when an outlet makes news for negative reasons, we need great journalists more than ever.
Yet if I don't land a job in that field, I'll be okay.
When I worked for MAKE IT IN LA, an initiative from Mayor Eric Garcetti's office meant to promote entrepreneurship and manufacturing in the Greater Los Angeles area, I learned that I loved telling people about entrepreneurs making really neat products while also being mindful of ethical, sustainable and charitable practices. I wasn't practicing journalism; I had to maintain a certain tone and language for the program, after all. But I was still telling people stories.
That's where my heart really lies: telling stories.
That's where I'm at right now as I search for a job where I can contribute to something great and I feel good about my work. As for this blog, I'm still determined to continue writing every week, just writing about the changing media landscape and I'll occasionally insert a few personal life updates along the way.
So onwards and upwards; can't wait to see where this journey goes.
